Black is Beautiful

BLACK OXIDE, that is!

I am nearing the end of refinishing components and it is time to get to the small, tedious chores. Ugh? Yippee!

Numerous small parts were removed from the truck and because many were in such good and serviceable condition, I decided to refinish a good number of them instead of purchasing replacements.

I mounted a die in a vice and used a socket and drill to spin the bolts to clean the threads.

The pieces were blasted using aluminum oxide. They are starting to look nice but the next steps caused an amazing transformation.

I used Eastwood's Metal Blackening Kit to refinish the parts to like-new condition. The kit includes all of the necessary components and is easy to use. I do have one suggestion to anyone who is thinking of buying the kit....use it with a lot of ventilation. The sealer has a horrible odor and the pieces take a long time to cure.

As always you can see larger versions of these photos at my Flickr site. Use your browser's "Back" button to return to this blog.

Thanks for looking and....

Enjoy The Ride!
